Climbing to the Mountaintop
One of my hiking buddies and I were hiking on the Appalachian trail in North Georgia a couple of years ago. We had planned for a 3-night / 4-day hiking trek during an unusually dry Fall season. With limited resources for water along the trail and several detours over fallen trees which added mileage to our daily plan, we were on our third consecutive day of hiking 15 miles. Towards the end of the third day as dehydration and utter exhaustion started to set in, I asked God out loud for a campsite for rest on a couple occasions. Each time a campsite appeared, but, I told my hiking buddy to keep hiking a little further to find a better place. Filled with frustration and exhaustion, for the third time, I asked God to PLEASE provide us with a campsite so that we could rest for the day.
My hiking partner suddenly stopped and turned around to me. He stated that I needed to open my eyes and heart because God had provided for each of my requests already, but told me that I refused to see. I immediately asked God for His forgiveness. After hiking a short 50 yards uphill, we reached an open area with a fire pit overlooking miles of God’s creation and rested for the day.
Takeaway: In our daily prayers and reflection time with God, may we open our eyes and hearts in our daily walk with HIM!
