Missions

Meals on Wheels

Tifton’s Meals on Wheels operates out of the Kitchen in the Activities Center.  This is an ongoing ministry that provides meals to shut-ins and those needing assistance in our community.

Backpack Buddies

Tifton First UMC helps with our Tift County School’s feeding program, by providing backpack meals that students can take home on Fridays to ensure that they are getting the nutrition they need when they are not in school.  We have volunteers and groups packing the bags on a regular basis in the Activities Center.

Baby Blanket Ministry

We are blessed with a group of ladies who started making baby blankets for the children born into First UMC.  They have touched numerous young couples over the years with these gifts of love.

Herring Memorial UMC Outreach/Support

Tifton First UMC has planted a number of churches around Tifton.  Trinity, Grace, and Herring were all started as neighborhood plants by Tifton First.  We have continued to try and support these churches, and have maintained an extra-close relationship with Herring over the years, helping with the Greenhouse program, Christmas events, and other ongoing support of this congregation.

YMCA Feeding Program at Peterson Apartments

Tifton First UMC has been a supporter of the YMCA feeding program, since it’s inception.  Staff, volunteers, and different groups within the church have gone and helped with the feeding program at Peterson Apartments on different days, each week, each summer.

Peanut Butter and Jesus

Tifton First UMC supports a terrific local mission that helps with feeding the hungry called “Peanut Butter and Jesus.”  Volunteers come together to make and deliver sandwiches and other goodies to people around our community.  From individuals, to small groups, to Sunday School classes and different age-level ministries, there are plenty of places to plug in to help with this ministry.

Soup Kitchen

Tifton First UMC supports our local soup kitchen with our leftovers from special events, as well as with things that we prepare for the Soup Kitchen.

Delivering Meals to our Shut-ins

Each Wednesday, when we’re having Wednesday Night Supper, we have volunteers who deliver meals to our shut-ins.  Since the outbreak of Covid, volunteers and Sunday School classes have made sure that those folks continue to receive meals each Wednesday evening.

Short-term Mission Opportunities

Whether it is a storm relief trip following tornadoes or hurricanes, or more extended trips to other areas of the U.S. or internationally, we are supporting individuals and teams of missionaries from Tifton First in the effort to share the love of Christ with others.

Missionary Support

We are blessed to be able to support a number of local and foreign ministries and missionaries.  We are currently supporting the Society of St. Andrews, Lifehouse Ministry, Herring Memorial UMC, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Young Life, the Wesley Foundation at Valdosta State University, the Methodist Children’s Home, and other great missions.  We are currently helping to support Sharon and Graham Nichols, with the Mission Society Global, in Ecuador; John and Rosalie Rentz, with the Wycliffe Bible Translators; Jerry & Cindy Walker, with Wycliffe Bible Translators, in Papua New Guinea; and Will and Mary Bailey Smith in Kenya, Africa.
