And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed…and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that these things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore, I say unto you what things soever ye desire, When ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Mark 11:22-24

Years ago, I remember Brother Ben Williams was preaching a sermon on this scripture, and it has stuck in my mind ever since. First because it is such a message of hope, but also because it made me realize how much my faith needs to be strengthened, and I want to know how to do that.

Norman Vincent Peale in his book, Positive Imaging, says we should vividly picture in our conscious minds a desired goal- a hope. Then we should hold that image until it sinks into our unconscious mind where we have great untapped energies we may not even know we possess. He says, “It works best when it is combined with a strong religious faith, backed by prayer and the seemingly illogical technique of giving thanks for benefits before they are received.” When you decide to apply this system steadily, you may find that you are able to face problems, appreciate joys and blessings, and feel that the power of your faith is strengthened day by day.

What better time than Christmas to start a renewed effort to strengthen our faith. What better example of hope than the promise of the manger.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for your promise that we can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens us. Help us to trust your word and increase our faith.

Amen
