Emily Golden Joins Tifton First Staff as Summer Intern

Tifton First United Methodist Church is pleased to announce that Emily Golden will be joining the staff in the role of Summer Intern. Emily will be assisting TFUMC Youth Director Derek Harrison throughout the summer months as they participate in a variety of events.

“Emily will be another set of eyes and ears, helping to take the load off of the Youth Director,” said Derek. “Emily brings tremendous value to the program.”

A 21-year-old rising senior at Anderson University in Anderson, South Carolina, Emily has been a lifelong member of Tifton First and is looking forward to her new role.

“Coming home every summer, the youth program has been my home,” Emily said.

“I have enjoyed staying plugged in.

“Last summer Derek allowed me to help, and he put a bug in my ear about possibly interning this summer. So, I thought about it and prayed about it. This is something that I love.

My summer highlights growing up were camps and trips, and this is a continuation of that.”

Tifton First Senior Pastor Chip Grantham is excited to have Emily join the staff this summer.

“Emily has been a worker bee in the youth program,” Chip said. “She will be an encourager to the young kids, lifting them up, modeling what Christianity can look like during the teenage years.

“She lives it, and the kids can’t help but see it.”

At Anderson, Emily is pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology. Upon graduation next spring she plans to continue her education with the ultimate goal being earning a master’s degree in Speech Pathology. In addition to her course load, Emily is also an athlete on a full scholarship at Anderson. A member of women’s track program, Emily participates in the long-distance running events: the 5 and 10 k races during the outdoor season and the 3 and 5K events in the indoor season. During the fall she runs for the Cross-Country team.

Derek is pleased to have someone assisting who has the experience and ability to work hard.

Emily will be running the youth group while I oversee River of Life (Tifton First’s community outreach project scheduled for this July),” said Derek. “She will be leading a weekly bible study and assisting me with Sunday night youth. She will be taking on leadership roles at the summer youth camp in Perry and will also be a team counselor.”

“Emily is the complete package,” said Chip. “She loves Jesus, she loves to worship, she loves to serve, and she loves people.”
