The God of Hope
Romans 15:13
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” NIV
The New Living Translations reads, “13 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” NLT
I love this scripture. I am astounded by the idea that I can overflow with confident hope! This wasn’t always true for me. So many times, I have felt hopeless. There were times when it seemed all was lost and there was no way out. That’s when I would look up and cry out for help. I wondered; would this be the day God would strike me with lightning? How many times can one person mess up? Am I the only one who has ever felt that way?
I am so thankful that God didn’t strike me down, but instead he picked me up in His arms and made me know that He loves me. God loves you too. God loves all of us so much that He sent His Son to us. Coming down as a little baby in a manger, Jesus is the Savior to all. We have hope because our hope comes from Jesus. We can look toward the future with hopeful anticipation because God loves us more than we can ever know. If you are feeling hopeless this season, look to the manger and remember the angels proclaiming the good news to all. Jesus is the hope that we have been looking for. The good news is that Jesus is here for us today and we can spend eternity with Him in heaven. Our hope can be overflowing with boundless confidence that God is here today. God is ready to heal your hurts and replace your hopelessness with boundless hope.
Prayer:
Father, live in me today. Fill my heart with your love and overflowing hope. Help those who are feeling helpless. Help them to know you. Replace their sadness with joy. Replace their despair with overflowing hope that you are our God, and you will make all things work together for our good according to your will. Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, to be our Savior and our hope. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
