As Tifton First Methodist Church begins the new year with a new name and affiliated with a new organization, a planning meeting has been scheduled for Saturday, January 11 at 9:00 am in the Social Hall. The meeting is primarily for members of the Tifton First Church Council and Executive Team.
According to Tifton First Senior Pastor Chip Grantham, the purpose of the meeting is to examine the organizational structure of Tifton First.
“We want to take a look at what we have done that has been good,” said Chip, “and we want to look at things that we have stopped doing that were good.
“We have some ideas, but we want some more input.”
Following the official disaffiliation from the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church, Tifton First has since joined the Association of Independent Methodists (AIM), which originated in 1965 in Jackson, Mississippi.
“We want to work on the structure of the church,” said Chip, “and we want to look at what is the best use of our time with our committees.
“How do we continue to raise the bar across the church?”
Several topics will be addressed during the January 11 meeting, including, but not limited to, age level ministries, a Sunday School/Discipleship Leadership program, and Missions Emphasis.
Chip reminded that there was a great deal of work during 2024, especially between April and the deadline for disaffiliation at the end of September.
“You have to remember that we’re starting a new entity,” he said. “There has been a lot of work taking place behind the scenes, working through the business, insurance, taxes, setting up new accounts.
“Now we want to be sure that we are doing the most important things in the life of the church. We want to figure out how to balance and still attend to the priorities.”
According to Chip, this will be the first of several meetings held during the upcoming months. Anyone who is not a member of the Tifton First Church Council or the Executive team and wishes to attend Saturday’s planning session, should reach out to Chip at the church office for more details.
