Love
“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love.
Whoever lives in love, lives in God, and God in him.”
I John 4:16
A gift I gave to our younger daughter a number of years ago was a two-sided blanket made from a collection of t-shirts she had worn in her high school years, including school organizations and church youth activities. The other side was made from college/work t-shirts which Tara had worn in her young adult life. A decade of special memories from when those t-shirts had been worn were compiled into one warm blanket and put together with love. Yes, it took weeks to make this gift of which I had no quilting experience, but I knew Tara would receive this gift with thankfulness, gratitude, and love in the same way it would be given to her. Even now, she is still so appreciative of the love which that gift was made and given. There is a line from a song, “The greatest thing is to love and to be loved in return.” God’s love is never ending. His love, which is so freely given, blankets us, warms our heart, comforts us, and endures for all time. He loved us first and will continue to love us forever. God loves each of us to the extent that He sent his only Son, who had been with him since the beginning of time, to live as a human man to show us the way to Him. That is an everlasting love!
Dear Heavenly Father – As we prepare our hearts during this Advent Season, may we remember and experience your everlasting love for us in sending us your Son, Jesus, to live among us and show us the real meaning of Love. We cannot know God if we do not know love. And you are Love. Amen
